Astley Bridge

A mere 2 miles from the town centre and formerly known as Lower Sharples, it takes its name from the bridge over Astley Brook as it flows towards the Irwell valley. Straddling the A666, Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge is a popular location for first time buyers and families looking for value for money alongside a choice of good schools and convenient local amenities.

Properties in Astley Bridge

There is always a wide range of properties for sale or for rent in Astley Bridge. Terraced properties, ideal for first time buyers and investors alike – many of them turn of the century mill workers’ cottages – sit alongside modern developments such as Perendale Rise, which offers a mixture of detached and semi detached stone – built family homes, whilst purpose built apartment living and retirement properties for the over 55’s are also ever popular. Completing the mix are some great post war semi detached properties offering affordable family living. Prices for terraced properties and apartments start around £60,000 to £70,000 through to detached residences, which can demand in excess of £250,000 – although we do find that properties in the area tend to stay under the £300,000 mark.

Leisure and Outdoors

Although it can seem a little too urban at times, the West Pennine Moors are only a stone’s throw away from Astley Bridge and offer amazing walking and cycling routes. Equally, for the more seasoned walkers among you, a relatively easy trek across the valley can lead you to the Jumbles Country Park. Astley Bridge Cricket Club is a favourite with many locals and both Barlow Park and nearby Moss Bank Park offer great family fun, when the sun is shining.

There are of course numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants in the area to suit all tastes, including the big names at the Valley complex with its multiplex cinema and Nuffields Gym.

Schools, Shopping and Transport

One great feature of Astley Bridge is the wide range of both primary and secondary schools easily accessible on foot, by car or by public transport. With Thornleigh, Smithills and Sharples on the doorstep getting your children off to school is so much easier and doesn’t have to get your day off on the wrong foot.

Asda and Lidl supermarkets sit alongside a range of local shops giving you a wide shopping choice and of course, with Bolton town centre only a couple of miles away, you’re never too far from that last minute emergency purchase or the inevitable ‘big weekly shop’!
